“When Arvind joined us as an engineer-trainee in 1976, Punjab Tractors were a young company manufacturing the 100% Indian Swaraj tractor based on its own design and production technology. Pitting against the best of global brand-names largely assembling CKD kits imported from their parent units was a formidable challenge. For an R&D led company, cut-throat competition posed new tests every day: Cost-reduction; Higher productivity; Better quality; Faster throughput; Process improvement. There could be no better initiation of a bright young engineer into his professional career. He led his Team in the Heavy Machine Shop through every challenge with distinction and with a smile.

Collaboration with Mazda Motor of Japan for LCV production in 1983 launched PTL on the totally new Journey of TQM. While entrusting Quality responsibility to Workers and removal of Inspectors had become a standard in Japan by that time, it was unthinkable for Indian Managers of that era. It was Arvind who persuaded a Group of 22 line-workers under him to accept Quality responsibility and eliminate an Inspector to spear-head the Change. Results were simply astounding; belied every fear. Instead of going downhill, Quality improved. It was this pioneering success .which gave me the confidence to launch Self-inspection throughout the entire organization. Acceptance of new work practices and technologies became easy for ever.

Arvind has been charting new tracks all the way and with success. He thinks clearly, collates information and delivers.
